Provincial Act No. 3 on organic agriculture

With a view to protecting consumers’ health and promoting those productions which are consistent with the protection of the environment, this Provincial Act regulates the production, preparation and marketing of products obtained through organic methods. The Act has been adopted in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) No. 2092/91.
Title II establishes a control system intended to ensure the effective application and compliance with these provisions. The Provincial Division for Agriculture shall supervise the enforcement of such provisions. It shall, inter alia, elaborate and keep an up-to-date register of organic operators as referred to in article 4. Moreover, it shall provide for the application of the penalties laid down in article 14 in case of infringement. Article 7 sets forth operators’ obligations. Article 11 describes the control procedures to be followed by the authorized control organisms. Title III of the Act regards the granting of subsidies by the Provincial Council in order to enhance and promote organic agriculture.
