Abstract
The Autonomous Province of Trento protects biotopes of particular environmental, cultural and scientific interest, including wetlands as well as areas distinguished by optimal habitat conditions for animal and plant species (art. 2). Biotopes of provincial interest shall be designated by the Provincial Council, upon proposal submitted by the Provincial Committee for the Environment (art. 5). With a view to ensuring the effective protection of such biotopes, the Province prohibits: a) the deterioration of the ecosystems; b) the release into the ecosystems of waste and any other kind of material; c) cultural changes as well as drainage works; d) quarrying. Those areas which are particularly protected by the Province may be expropriated, in compliance with the procedure regulated under article 8. The Service for Demain Parks and Forests, the Provincial Committee for the Environment and the Communes shall collaborate and exchange information (art. 6). Articles 11 and 12 refer to administrative penalties and inspection respectively. Article 14 regards the restoration of deteriorated biotopes.
