Abstract
The Valle d’Aosta Region has enacted the present Act, in implementation of Legislative Decree No. 220 of 17 March 1995, with a view to regulating: (a) agricultural production intended for human consumption obtained through organic methods; (b) the production, preparation and marketing of products obtained through organic methods; (c) research, experimentation and dissemination of information with respect to organic agriculture. Article 3 contains the following definitions: (1) organic agriculture; (2) organic agricultural enterprise; (3) biological operator; (4) processor; (5) spontaneous organic agricultural product. Article 4 sets forth the functions to be exercised by the regional structure which is competent in matter of organic agriculture. Article 6, on the other hand, lists out the duties of biological operators, which must first of all comply with the requirements and conditions established by Council Regulation 2092/91. A Regional List of biological operators shall be drawn up in accordance with article 7. Further, article 10 provides for the setting up of the Regional Committee competent in the biological agroindustrial sector.
