Abstract
This Act makes provision with respect to protection of consumers in Jamaica and for this purpose establishes the Consumer Affairs Commission.
The Act, among other things, defines functions and powers of the Commission, defines duties of persons who sell goods or provide services or facilities, prohibits misleading or deceptive practices in relation with the marketing or providing of goods and services and provides rules relative to contracting.
The Commission shall, among other things: investigate complaints of consumers and carry out investigations at its own initiative: promote the development of consumer protection organizations; and seek to resolve disputes between consumers and providers of goods and services.
