Jordan Food and Drug Administration Law No.41 of 2008.

This Law consisting of 20 articles aims at establishing the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) and defining its goals. Main objectives of JFDA are (i) ensure the safety of food stuffs, their quality and their fitness for human consumption; (ii) ensure the safety of drug (medication), its effectiveness and quality; and (iii) ensure the safety of other stuffs specified in the Drug and Pharmacy Law No.80 of 2001.
In order to achieve these objectives, powers and responsibilities of JFDA are as follows (i) control food stuffs in terms of the quality and fitness in accordance with technical rules, and the legislation in force; (ii) implement the requirements and take measures in connection with the drug by virtue of the Drug and Pharmacy Law; (iii) guarantee and supervise the safety and quality of medication according to the legislation in effect; and (iv) exercise any other supervision and inspection in connection with food stuffs and drug.
JFDA shall have a board of directors, chaired by the Minister of Health, with the following main functions (i) develop the general policy relating to food, drug and their control; (ii) approve the required plans and programs; and follow their implementation; (iii) approve the technical rules, guidelines, recommendations or other documentation issued by other countries and by Arab, regional and international organizations; (iv) approve JFDA's development plans and its cadres and conduct the necessary studies and researches; (v) approve the annual budget of the JFDA and submit it to the Council of Ministers; (vi) regularly review the JFDA's achievements; (vii) form any specialist committees that may be required by JFDA's activities and define their tasks; and (viii) prepare the draft legislation related to JFDA's activities.
The Law deals also with financial issues, and staff and workers' rights, privileges and obligations.
