Act on the Promotion of Sorted Collection and Recycling of Containers and Packaging (Act No. 112 of 1995).

This Act provides for the proper management of waste and for the effective use of recyclable resources.
The Act sets out a basic policy aimed at promoting the reduction of waste containers and packaging discharged and recycling waste containers and packaging that conform to the sorting standards. The competent minister shall also set a recycling plan in line with the basic policy.
Responsibilities of the State, of local governments, and of business operators and consumers are outlined in the Act.
The Act further provides for: municipal government plans on the sorted collection of waste containers and packaging; prefectural government sorted collection promotion plans; recycling measures; offences and penalties; etc.
