Abstract
These Regulations, implementing section 147 of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, set standards to prevent land and water pollution by regulating wastewater discharge and protecting water resources. They apply to: drinking water, water used for industrial purposes, water used for agricultural purposes, water used for recreational purposes, water used for fisheries and wildlife, and for any other purposes. Matters covered by these Regulations include: standards for sources of domestic water; prevention of water pollution; protection of lakes, rivers, streams, springs, wells and other water sources; restrictions and other measures on use of water sources; prevention from abstraction and discharge any effluent from sewage treatment works; compliance with water quality standards; water quality monitoring; compliance with industrial standards for industrial water use; discharge monitoring; use of water for agricultural purposes and creation of buffer zone for irrigation; use of waste water for irrigation; offences. Actors must to comply with effluent discharge limits, obtain necessary permits, monitor water quality, and maintain buffer zones around water bodies to prevent contamination.
