Abstract
These Regulations, made under section 37 of the Fisheries Management and Development Act, establish beach management units for a designated fish landing station, in order to: strengthen the management of fish landing stations, fishery resources and the aquatic environment; support the sustainable development of the fisheries sector; improve planning and resource management, good governance, democratic participation and self-reliance; ensure production of safe and quality fish and fishery products; build capacity of the members for the effective co-management of fisheries; reduce or resolve conflicts in the fisheries sector; support collection, collation and submission of fishing and fisheries related data to the county executive committee; ensure adequate security at the fish landing station and any fishing vessels; ensure compliance with applicable hygiene standards in connection with the landing storage and safety of fish and fishery products; promote the marketing of fish including the construction and supply of marketing facilities and organising fish auctions.
These Regulations concern the following matters: establishment of beach management units; administrative matters and executive committee; membership of a beach management unit; conduct of business and affairs; support and control of beach management units; financial provisions and management; establishment of beach management unit network; penalties and offences.
