Abstract
These Regulations, made under section 208 of the Fisheries Management and Development Act, apply to persons, vessels or other crafts undertaking any marine fishing and provide for: modalities for accessing Kenya marine fishery resources; terms and conditions for harvesting marine fishery resources; improving economic benefits from marine fishery resources; promoting food and nutrition security; increasing levies for promoting development of artisanal fishers; management and conservation of marine fishery resources; strengthening surveillance mechanisms to eradicate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing within Kenya marine fishery waters. The Regulations concern: procedures for registration and licensing of fishermen and fishing crew; qualification for subsistence, artisanal and ornamental fishing; issuance of fishing licence; landing requirements and transshipment; authorisation to fish in the high seas; fees, charges and levies; measures concerning prawn trawl and ring net fishing.
