Abstract
The text of this Act consists of 13 sections: Short title (1); Interpretation (2); Forest Areas (4); Nature Reserves (6); Licences (7); Various Prohibitions (8); Counterfeiting or Unlawfully Affixing Marks, etc.(9); Compounding Offences (10); Search, Arrest, etc. (11); Rewards to Informers (12); Presumption Concerning Forest Produce (13); Penalty (14); Rules (15).
The Minister may, from time to time, by notice in the Gazette: (a) declare any unalienated Government land to be a forest area (sect. 4). The Minister may, by notice in the Gazette, declare a forest area or a Central Forest or any part thereof to be a nature reserve for the purpose of preserving the natural amenities thereof and the flora and fauna therein and any declare that a nature reserve shall cease to be a nature reserve. In a nature reserve, not cutting, grazing, removal of forest produce or disturbance of the flora shall be allowed except with the permission of the Chief Conservator, and permission shall only be given with the object of conserving the natural flora and amenities of the reserve (sect. 6). Hunting, fishing and the disturbance of the fauna shall be prohibited except in so far as may be permitted by the Chief Conservator in consultation with the Chief Game Warden, and permission shall only be given in cases where the Chief Conservator in consultation with the Chief Game Warden considers it necessary or desirable to take or kill any species. Section 8 prohibits cutting of trees and various other activities without a licence granted by the Chief Conservator. Section 15 specifies in detail the regulation making powers of the Minister. The Governor in Council or the Minister may declare protected areas (sects. 4-6).
