Abstract
This Order, made under section 30 of the National Cereals and Produce Board Act, 1985, provides for the management of the National strategic reserve of cereals, and therefore concerns: digital food balance sheet, as a tool for monitoring and evaluating national food patterns and implementing food security interventions; food-insecure population; maize consumption; price stabilisation. According to this Order the National strategic reserve consists of base stock and the monetary equivalent, and price stabilisation and monetary equivalent. The Order also defines the appointment, the composition and the functions of the Food Balance Sheet Committee, including: generate, analyse and submit information necessary to determine the quantities of the national strategic reserve; advise the Board on the country's food supply and utilisation, in order to improve availability and affordability of the national strategic reserve; collect data and undertake market intelligence and price monitoring of the national strategic reserve. The attachment includes a list of strategic food reserve commodities, including: maize, rice, wheat, beans, potatoes, canned meat, powdered milk, dried fish.
