Abstract
These Rules, made in exercise of the power conferred by section 44(1) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (cap. 244) of 1957, provide for amendment of the Pharmacy and Poisons Rules (cap. 244). The amendments concern the introduction of new definitions: biological therapeutic, including medicines from large-scale cell cultures of bacteria, yeast, plant or animal cell; herbal drug; human and veterinary use; medical claim and diagnosis, restoration and disinfection activities concerning human and animal health; prescription only health product. New rules inserted concern: importation and exportation of biological therapeutics; manufacture of biological therapeutics; requirements for advertisement; prohibited advertisement; promotion and advertisement of medical devices; advertisement of herbal and complementary medicine; weight management claims; advertisement targeting pregnant and lactating women and related risks; advertisement for general public; general penalties.
