Abstract
These Rules, made in exercise of the power conferred by section 44(1) of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act (cap. 244) of 1957, provide for management of pharmaceutical waste, including: waste containing pharmaceuticals that are expired, damaged or no longer needed; items contaminated by or containing pharmaceutical waste including bottles and boxes; applicable medical devices; falsified medical products. These Rules do not apply to: infectious, pathological, radioactive, chemical and general healthcare waste. The Rules aim at minimising waste production and therefore limiting environmental pollution. The Rules focus on: management of pharmaceutical waste and use of waste generator; minimisation of emissions and conservation of energy during the use of waste generator; packaging and labelling of pharmaceutical waste; handling and collection of pharmaceutical waste; storage and transportation of pharmaceutical waste; ban on the import of pharmaceutical waste and limitation on its export; pharmaceutical waste treatment and disposal methods.
