Sugar Act, 2001 (No. 10 of 2001).

This Act provides for the regulation of the cultivation of sugarcane and any other sugar-producing crop, the manufacturing, refining, marketing and disposal of sugar and its by-products. It establishes the Kenya Sugar Board as a body corporate. The Board shall be the successor to the Kenya Sugar Authority and shall, among other things, regulate, develop and promote the sugar industry, license sugar mills and register millers. The Act also establishes the Sugar Development Fund which shall be administered by the Board and the Sugar Arbitration Tribunal for the purpose of arbitrating disputes arising between any parties under this Act. These shall be for purposes of this Act agreements negotiated between growers and millers, growers and out-grower institutions (as defined by this Act), and millers and out-grower institutions. The agreements shall conform to the guidelines set out in the Second Schedule.
