Abstract
This Act amends the Local Government Act 1984 by adding a new section 11A concerning the vacation of a seat in the local government council after petition and referendum and by making a consequential amendment to section 11. This Act thus provides that the electors of any ward of a Local Government Council established under the Local Government Act 1984 can remove the elected member through a petition and a referendum. A petition must be signed by a majority of such electors and sent to the Chief Electoral Officer. When the Chief Electoral Officer receives a petition he or she must conduct a referendum to prove the validity of the petition.
