Abstract
These Regulations, made under section 51 of the Bureau of Standards and Quality Act, apply to the labelling of all pre-packaged foods to be offered for sale to the consumer or for catering purposes, and prescribe that any pre-packaged foods within or being imported into Saint Christopher and Nevis shall be in conformity with the standards for labelling of pre-packaged foods. These Regulations define the following relevant terms: alcoholic beverages; competent authority; comparative claim; food contaminant; food additives; country of origin; dietary fibre; food for special dietary uses; health claims; food ingredient; nutrient and nutrition claim; labelling; sugars; processing aid, as any substance or material intentionally used in the processing of raw materials, food or its ingredients, to fulfil a certain technological purpose during treatment or processing, and which may result in the non-intentional but unavoidable presence of residues in the final product.
The Regulations concern the following matters: general principles of pre-packaged food; labelling requirements, including: name of the product, list of ingredients, carry-over of food additives, specific requirements and warnings for alcoholic beverages; date marking and storage instructions; quantitative labelling of ingredients; artificial, irradiated and other treated food; organically produced food; presentation of labelling information; sanctions.
