Abstract
These Regulations, made under section 51 of the Bureau of Standards and Quality Act, specify requirements for the purity, treatment, bacteriological acceptability, packaging and labelling of all waters that are pre-packaged for sale and used as beverages or in foods, and do not apply to water distributed by the public water supply system not intended for human consumption. The Regulations define the following relevant terms: decarbonated natural mineral water; natural mineral water; de-ionisation; distillation; naturally carbonated and non-carbonated natural mineral water; packaged water; potable water; prepared water; public water supply system; purified water; spring water; UV radiation. Matters covered by these Regulations include: powers of inspectors; penalties following a contravention; modification, treatment and handling of packaged waters; composition and quality factors; transport of natural mineral waters; microbiological requirements; maximum concentrations of certain substances in spring or purified water; contaminants and substances that must not be contained in packaged water; labelling prohibitions.
