Abstract
This Act provides for the enhancement of the marketability and stability of fishery products and for fostering the processing industry of fishery products through the adequate quality control on fishery products.
The Act consists of 56 articles divided into 9 Chapters: General provisions (I); Quality control of fishery products (II); Fosterage and management of fishery product processing industry (III); Designation of designated sea areas and registration and management of production or processing facilities (IV); Inspection of fishery products and processed fishery products (V); Quarantine of fishery products for transplant (VI); Safety test, etc. of fishery products (VII); Supplementary provisions (VIII); Penal provisions (IX).
A Fishery Products Quality Control Deliberation Council shall be established under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and shall deliberate on matters defined in article 4. The Minister shall conduct quality certification systems in order to elevate the quality of fishery products, fishery specialities, and fishery traditional foods, and to protect the consumers.
Chapter II deals with the following matters: registration of geographical markings, indication of place of origin, indication of genetically transformed fishery products, etc.
Any person who intends to operate a fishery product processing business shall file a registration with the Minister. The Minister shall, in order to implement the agreements with foreign countries, set forth and publicly notify the criteria for sanitary management of the producing or processing facilities of fishery products for exports and the criteria for priority management of hazardous elements.
