Abstract
The purpose of this Act is the efficient management of wetlands in order to contribute to their conservation and to wetland biodiversity as well as the promotion of international cooperation by reflecting the objectives of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat.
The Minister of Environment and the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, respectively, shall formulate a basic plan for wetland conservation every five years, and the Minister of Environment shall formulate a master plan for wetland conservation on the basis of the basic plan after consulting with the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries.
The Minister of Environment, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, or a Governor may designate any of the following areas worthy of special conservation status as a wetland protection area, and designate the environs thereof as a wetland management area: 1. An area that has native species or rich biodiversity; 2. An area inhabited or visited by a rare or endangered wild animal or plant; 3. An area that has extraordinary scenic, topographic, or geologic value. The Act lists prohibited activities and penal sanctions, as well cases where use restrictions are lifted.

Entry into force notes
The present Act shall enter into effect on 22 June 2008.
