Abstract
The 64 sections of this Act are divided into 8 Parts: Preliminary (I); Cruelty to animals (II); Pounds and poundkeepers (III); Impounding (IV); Dangerous dogs (V); Offences (VI); Legal proceedings (VII); Miscellaneous (VIII).
Section 3 prohibits cruel behaviour towards animals in general and specific cruel acts to be carried out on animals. Section 4 contains rules for operations on animals. Section 9 requires who impound animals to feed them properly. Section 11 concerns the slaughter of animals destined for food production. The Minister may establish animal pounds for purposes of this Act under section 15 and shall appoint poundkeepers for such pounds pursuant to section 16. Poundkeepers shall keep records on impounded animals in accordance with section 17. An inquiry as regards to the ownership of impounded animals shall take place and the identified owner duly notified. Impounded animals without an owner may be sold or disposed of in the manner prescribed (sects. 23 to 25). Section 26 prescribes which animals may be impounded. Section 47 prescribes rules of behaviour towards dangerous or harmful animals. Offences and penalties are prescribed in section 47 and following.
