Abstract
This Act lays down rules for the prohibition on import of styrofoam and plastic food service containers, prohibition on manufacturing, sale, use or distribution of styrofoam and plastic food service containers, and prohibition on sale of food in styrofoam and plastic food service containers. This Act shall not apply to a disposable plastic beverage container; packaged food with styrofoam and plastic food service containers prior to receipt by a person; a disposable carry-out bag primarily of thermoplastic synthetic polymeric materials; a disposable plastic bag designed for the disposal of household and industrial waste; a disposable plastic bag, disposable styrofoam container or item for pharmaceutical or medical use; a disposable plastic bag or item for food storage; a disposable biodegradable plastic bag manufactured for export; and a disposable plastic straw attached to a small tetra pak box. Food business owners or directors shall be obliged to declare the number and types of food service containers to the Department of Sustainable Development. The Bureau of Standards shall issue environmental standards for sustainable food service containers in accordance with the Standards Act Cap. 13.25. Moreover, the disposal of styrofoam and plastic food service containers shall be carried out in accordance with the Waste Management Act Cap. 6.05.
