Abstract
Section 2 provides for the appointment of a Director of Animal Production and Health and sub-ordinate or substituting officers. Section 3 requires importers of diseased animals to notify the Director. the Director may seal off infected premises pursuant to section 4, whereas he may seal off an infected area in accordance with section 5. Sections 6 to 15 contain other powers of the director or appointed officers to take measures to prevent or contain animal diseases. Premises intended for animal production use shall be registered with the Director according to section 16. Section 17 provides for licences for the production of veterinary drugs or veterinary biological products, the latter being vaccines, micro-organisms, etc. A licence is also needed in order to keep stud bulls or donor cows (sect. 19).
The second part of the Act concerns the control of external trade in animals, animal products, veterinary drugs and veterinary biological products. Section 26 requires health certificates from the country of origin to be submitted to the Director. Section 28 requires imported animals to be kept in quarantine. Section 32 makes provision for the establishment of a Veterinary Drug Control Authority. Section 33 concerns the importation of embryos and semen. (40 sections completed by 3 Schedules)
