Abstract
The Ordinance establishes the procedure to be followed in cases where contagious animal diseases (listed in Section 2) are detected. The Chief Government Veterinary Surgeon shall make the declaration of infected area specifying the date from which such declaration shall take effect. He may establish protective zones adjacent to infected areas for the purpose of checking the spread of any disease among cattle or animals. Further quarantine measures may also include the power to close roads to all cattle traffic and to declare ports, etc. infected with disease. Section 9 lists the purposes for which the Minister may make regulations (among other matters, treatment of carcasses, disinfecting, control of markets, seizure, detention, disposal and destruction of cattle or animals exposed to the risk of contamination, isolation of cattle, landing of men, cattle or animals from vessels, performance of post-mortem examinations, establishment and maintenance of quarantine and inoculation stations). Final provisions concern offences and penalties, duties of inspectors and police officers and enforcement measures.
