Government Decree No. HG751/2011 validating the Development Program for water management and hydromelioration in the Republic Moldova for 2011-2020.

Specific tasks of the Development Program for water management and hydromelioration in the Republic Moldova for 2011-2020 shall be as follows: (a) creation of effective water resources management, harmonized with the standards and norms of the European Union in terms of technological norms in the field of water management and sustainable management of surface and ground water resources; (b) providing the population and national economy with high-quality water that meets current regulatory requirements; (c) providing protection from floods to 93 settlements and 95 thousand hectares of agricultural land; (d) increasing the area of irrigated land to 300 thousand hectares; (e) increasing productivity on irrigated lands; (f) increasing the number of irrigation associations for irrigation; (g) organization of production at domestic specialized enterprises of 8 mobile irrigation units on farms; (h) creation of a database of a water fund information system for hydraulic structures, use and disposal of water, irrigation and drainage of land; and (i) scientific and technical substantiation of technological processes in the field of water management.
Implementation of the Development Program shall ensure: (a) rational use of water and sustainable supply of the national economy with water; (b) preventing flooding by safely draining flood waters to transboundary and inland rivers; (c) maintaining a hydrological balance based on the introduction of the hydrographic basin principle; (d) maintaining the Register of Hydraulic Property; (e) maintaining sanitary and environmental costs in watercourses; (f) protection of waters from pollution; (g) prevention of floods and flooding of populated areas and farmland; and (h) bringing regulations, standards and methodologies in conformity with the norms of the European Union.
