Government Decree No. HG836/2013 validating the Regulation on the prevention of water pollution from agricultural activities.

Regulation on the prevention of water pollution from agricultural activities establishes the procedure for identifying polluted water as a result of agricultural activities, as well as the identification and delimitation of vulnerable areas. It also provides for the development of an action program for the prevention of water pollution from agricultural activities and promotes codes of good agricultural practices. Polluted water from agricultural activities is identified by the central public administration authority in cooperation with other competent authorities, based on monitoring data collected by the State hydrometeorological service for one calendar year. Identification of polluted water as a result of agricultural activities involves identifying: (a) surface water, including those used or intended for drinking water intake, which contains or may contain more than 50 mg/l of nitrates; and (b) natural water and other waterbodies that are considered eutrophic or may become eutrophic in the near future and contain or may contain more than 50 mg/l of nitrates. In order to ensure the general level of water protection from pollution as a result of agricultural activities the central public authority in the field of agriculture and food industry: (a) develops codes of good agricultural practice to be used by farmers on a voluntary basis; (b) promotes the implementation of codes of good agricultural practice; and (c) organizes information and training of the population to apply codes of proper agricultural practice.
