Abstract
The Regulation on packaging materials and packaging waste regulates handling of packaging materials and packaging waste related management and prevention or reduction of environmental impact while providing a high level of protection of the environment, the functioning of the market and the elimination of barriers to trade, preventing distortion or restriction of competition. This Regulation sets out priority measures aimed at prevention of packaging waste, as well as principles for reducing the final disposal of packaging waste through reuse, recycling and development. The requirements of this Regulation apply to all types of packaging, used on the market, no matter what material they were made of, how used or where they come from: industry, offices, shops, services, households of the population or any other type of activity, as well as all packaging waste, regardless of its origin. Targets for recovery and recycling of packaging waste shall be as follows: (a) development of at least 50% of the mass of packaging waste; (b) processing of at least 45% of the total mass of packaging materials contained in packaging waste, with the achievement of the following minimum recycling values for each type of material contained in packaging waste: (1) 45% by weight for glass; (2) 50% weight for paper / board; (3) 40% by weight for metal; (4) 10% wood mass; and (5) 20% weight for plastic, including only recycled plastic.
