Abstract
This Law hereby regulates the way and conditions of breeding of domestic animals, the way for a correct adoption and implementation of the breeding and selection programmes, preservation of genetic variability, trade with live animals and with their genetic material, also defining the rights and obligations of subjects performing activities in livestock sector the territory of the Republic of Montenegro.
The provisions stipulated by this Law are aimed for cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, equidae, pigs/swine, other livestock, fur, rabbits and bees.
Major aims of this Law are to implement the: effective public interest in animal husbandry; production of sufficient quantities of quality livestock products; improvement of the characteristics of domestic animals while preserving their vitality; conservation of genetic variability, biological diversity and autochthonous breeds in animal husbandry/stock breeding; constant improvement of the quality of livestock products; cultivation of domestic animals with the application of norms for the preservation of the environment and with the application of zoohigenic (sanitary) and ethological norms and requirements; performance of professional zootechnical procedures; application of the results of scientific research, professional, educational and advisory labor in livestock and other goals of importance for livestock breeding, including offences and penalties (Chapter X).
