Regulation on measures for the prevention of spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza in zoos.

This Regulation prescribes the necessary epizootiological animal health measures aimed at preventing the spread of highly pathogenic avian virus (bird influence) as regards the birds kept in zoos and other facilities, in which they are grown and kept for commercial or non-commercial purposes, including exhibitions, public education, conservation of animal species or scientific research from wild birds, poultry and other birds, that are subject to such animal disease.
This text sets issues on physical contact and distance between birds and wild birds, several location rules in terms of distance of above mentioned facilities, and preventive vaccination requirements.
This Regulation transposes the rules contained in the Council Directive 2007/598/EC of 28 August 2007concerning measures to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza to other captive birds kept in zoos and approved bodies, institutes or centres in the Member States.
