Abstract
The general principles of this Code is to establish a system of prohibitions, penalties, and correctional measures to deal with conduct that unjustifiable and inexcusably causes or threatens harm to those individual or public interest for which government protection is appropriate. This Act lays down provisions on the classes of crimes and violations; prosecution methods; general principles of liability and justification; and the authority of the court in sentencing. Part II addresses specific crimes, such as corruption, fraud, unauthorized disposition of any food commodity donated under any program of foreign government or of the Republic, and altering, damaging, or contaminating a water or sewer line.

An Act to repeal the Criminal Code, 31 MIRC Chapter 1, and to provide for a more integrated system of criminal offenses, defenses and penalties; to repeal sections 156 and 157 of the Criminal Procedures Act, 32 MIRC Chapter 1, to provide for the defense of insanity in the Criminal Code; to repeal section 512 of the Child Abuse and Neglect Act, to provide for the criminal offense of child abuse in the Criminal Code; to repeal the Prostitution Prohibition Act, 31 MIRC Chapter 5, to provide for criminal offenses for prostitution and trafficking in person in the Criminal Code.
Entry into force notes
This Code enters into force on 17 October 2011.
