Marine Zones (Declaration) Act 1984 (Public Law 1984-25).

The interpretation section provides a definition of "the baseline of the Marshall Islands": "means the low water line of the seaward side of the reef fringing the coast of any part of the Marshall Islands or bounding any lagoon waters adjacent to any part of the coast or, where a reef is not present, the low water line of the coast itself". Section 5 provides a definition of Internal Waters and section 6 of Archipelagic Waters. The territorial sea of the Republic is that part of the sea within 12 nautical miles from the baseline, but were archipelagic baselines are drawn under section 6(2) the breadth of the territorial sea shall be measured from those baselines, to the extent to which they are outside the outer limits of the Internal Waters (sect. 7). The EEZ extends to 200 nautical miles from the baselines but the Cabinet may declare points between which straight baselines are to be drawn for determining the outer limits of the EEZ. "Where the median line is less than 200 nautical miles from the line from which the breadth of the territorial Sea is to be measured, the outer limits of the exclusive economic zone extend only to that median line (sect. 8).
