Abstract
The Namdrik Atoll Resources Management Plan establishes a set of community-based regulatory measures aimed at ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources and strengthening climate resilience. It introduces fisheries controls, including community-agreed harvesting rules, seasonal closures, and designated no-take areas to prevent overexploitation and allow stock recovery. The Plan also promotes sustainable agriculture and forestry practices, emphasizing the cultivation of traditional crops and the protection of vegetation. Measures are included to manage solid waste and protect freshwater resources, particularly the atoll’s water lens, alongside actions for shoreline protection and ecosystem restoration to address climate change impacts. In addition, it supports environmentally sustainable economic activities, such as small-scale fisheries and aquaculture, while assigning implementation and oversight responsibilities to local governance structures, notably the Namdrik Atoll Local Resources Committee, to ensure compliance and community participation.
