Abstract
The Republic of the Marshall Islands commits to quantified economy-wide targets to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases in the energy and waste sectors by 2025, 2030, 2035 systematically and achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050 at the latest.
The Government of Marshall Islands develops strategies for the fulfillment of its contribution through full, effective, and transparent implementation of the Paris Agreement. Therefore, the Government lays down binding and indicative targets to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases to at least 32% below 2010 levels by 2025 and to at least 45% below 2010 levels by 2030, and targets in the energy and waste sectors to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest. Nationally determined contributions shall apply to the waste sector and electricity generation, domestic transportation and other activities such as cooking and lighting in the energy sector. Moreover, as a national adaptation plan, 2050 Climate Strategy is developed to set short, medium and long-term milestones to adapt to the impacts of climate change and transition to climate resilience and annexed to this policy. Nationally determined contributions will be integrated into relevant planning, programming and implementation processes with a gender-responsive and human rights-based approach.
