Pesticide Law (State Law and Order Restoration Council Law No. 10/90).

The Law provides for the institution of the Pesticide Registration Board that, in close collaboration with the Myanmar Agricultural Service, shall undertake all actions necessary to test all pesticides, or their bio active molecules, to evaluate their real composition and compliance with their labelling and to carry on bio-efficacy trials to assess the efficacy of those pesticides and active molecules on crops. Moreover, the Board shall ban the use of pesticides and active ingredients harmful to human and animal health and to the crops and cultivations.
Companies or individuals who want to formulate, trade, distribute or pesticides in or out of the country must apply for a registration permit that could be one of the following: - Experimental: a permit for a maximum of two years in order to test efficacy and optimize agricultural use of the compounds. - Provisional: a permit up to five years, based on the labelling of the compounds, consenting to their use and applications to crops and cultivation. - Full: a permit up to ten years, based on the labelling of the compounds, consenting to their use and applications to crops and cultivation. - Special use permit: it is an emergency measure for the use of any compound with a pesticide action to eradicate any unexpected pest or disease. On the other hand, users are compelled to comply with the indications and applications of use of pesticides as reported in their labelling, in storing pesticides far from foodstuff and in handling them or disposing of their waste (packages, containers, wrappers).
