Abstract
By way of implementation of Directive 98/58/EC, these Regulations lay down minimum standards for the protection of animals which are bred or kept for farming purposes. These provisions shall not apply, however, to: (a) animals living in the wild; (b) animals intended for use in competitions, shows, cultural or sporting events or activities; (c) experimental or laboratory animals; (d) any invertebrate animal. Owners or keepers shall ensure the welfare of animals under their care and shall also ensure that they are not subjected to any unnecessary pain, suffering or injury. Regulation 6 concerns the inspections to be carried out by the Veterinary Services. Regulation 8 sets out the penalties to be applied in case of infringement.
