Abstract
These regulations apply to the production, placing on the market in the territory of Malta and the importation of minced meat and meat preparations, in implementation of the provisions laid down in Directive 94/65/EC. The production and marketing of meat shall be subjected to the previous issue of an authorization by the Veterinary Services (reg. 4).
Part II regards minced meat. Only fresh meat obtained from bovine animals, pigs, sheep or goats and presented in the form of minced meat shall be traded as such, as long as it meets the requirements referred to in regulation 3. The requirements are those prescribed under Directives 64/433/EEC and 72/462/EEC. They cover packaging, labelling, transportation and inspection conditions. Part III is devoted to the placing on the market of meat preparations. Common provisions, mainly concerning checks, are laid down under Part IV. Further, Part V establishes provisions applicable to imports from third countries of meat preparations and minced meat into Malta. Five Schedules are attached. Schedule I defines the conditions for the approval of establishments engaged in the production of minced meat and meat preparations and further gives details of transport and inspection. Schedules II and IV set out composition criteria and microbiological criteria. Schedules III and V lay down the model for the health certificate for minced meat and meat preparations respectively.
