Abstract
The Act provides general rules relative to the preparation and sale of food. Section 3 places restrictions on the addition of substances to food. Section 4 places restrictions on the abstraction of substances from food intended for sale. Where a person sells to the prejudice of the purchaser any food or drug which is not of the nature, nor of the substance, nor of the quality, of the food or drug demanded by the purchaser, he shall, subject to section 6, commit an offence (sect. 5). Section 6 outlines defences in proceedings under section 5. Sections 7 and 8 provide for labelling of food. Sections 10 and 11 empower the Minister to make further regulation with respect to various matters of food quality control. The remaining provisions of the Act deal with supervision and control, taking of samples, legal proceedings and prescibe offences. (28 sections)
