Abstract
This Act makes provision with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority and the registration of small and medium enterprises (SME's). "Enterprise" includes a co-operative society. The Authority is established as a body corporate and its objects include the development and empowerment of SME's. The Authority shall, among other things: implement and operate a registration scheme for SMEs; provide core support services, particularly entrepreneurship development, business facilitation, counselling and mentoring services; empower product specific and sector specific SMEs to enhance their delivery capabilities. The Authority shall be administered by a Board which shall be known as the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Board.
SME's may apply to the Board for registration. Where the Board grants an application for registration, it shall issue a registration certificate to the applicant, subject to such terms and conditions as it thinks fit.
