Abstract
This Act provides for the management of controlled solid waste and public cleansing throughout Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal territories of Putrajaya and Labuan.
The Act provides for the appointment of a Director General of Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management, and for its functions and powers. The Director General shall approve the construction, alteration or closure of prescribed solid waste management facilities. A licence is required to undertake any solid waste management services or to manage and operate any solid waste management facilities. Licensing provisions are set out in the Act. The Text further provides for the following matters: controlled solid waste charges, fees or levies; establishment of a Tribunal for Solid Waste Management Service; control of solid waste generators and persons in possession of controlled solid waste; reduction, reuse and recycling of controlled solid waste; etc.
