Decree No. 32/2004 creating and approving the Statute of the National Marine Institution (INAMAR).

This Decree, consisting of 27 articles divided into five Chapters, approves the Statute of the National Marine Institution (INAMAR, IP). This pubic body is responsible for: a) performing maritime authority in areas of maritime jurisdiction, lakes, river and coastal zones, as well as in the domains of maritime administration, security and protection; b) planning maritime areas and public domain of the coastal zone; c) inspection of activities in maritime, inland freshwater areas and in the maritime public domain of the coastal zone, as well as compliance with norms relating to the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems and the conditions for conservation and exploitation of marine conservation areas; d) development and application of measures to ensure the sustainable exploitation, conservation and preservation of aquatic ecosystems; e) carrying out and coordinating rescue activities, including rescue of goods, in maritime, inland freshwater areas, with the involvement of other relevant entities.
