Abstract
This Decree establishes new duties and competencies of the Mozambican Institute of Cotton (IAM), created by Decree No. 7/91 of 23 April. IAM aims at regulating the production, marketing and industrialization of cotton and its by-products within the national territory. The Decree establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Institute, responsible for: supervise activities of development, production, marketing, and industrialization of cotton, sisal and other crops for textile purposes; implement research and transfer of technologies for production, trade and processing of cotton, sisal and other crops for textile purposes; coordinate the placement of domestic and foreign cotton and other products and by-products for textile purposes produced in the country; coordinate with all the sectors involved in production, processing, trade, etc. of fiber and other cotton products; license actors of production, trade and pre-processing of related crops; develop and manage projects, infrastructure and other structuring undertakings and supporting the production, trade and processing of cotton, sisal and other crops for textile purposes; establish cooperation agreements with similar national and foreign institutions; etc.
