Abstract
This Act makes provision for the measures and rules regarding the protection from harmful effects of radiation. For the purpose of policy and control it establishes the Atomic Energy Board and the National Radiation Protection Authority. The Board shall be principally an advisory and monitoring body whereas the Authority shall grant licences for activities involving radioactive materials. Licence holders shall register radioactive material imported or produced in Namibia with the Authority.

An Act to provide for adequate protection of the environment and of people in current and future generations against the harmful effects of radiation by controlling and regulating the production, processing, handling, use, holding, storage, transport and disposal of radiation sources and radioactive materials, and controlling and regulating prescribed non-ionising radiation sources; to establish an Atomic Energy Board and to provide for its composition and functions; to establish a National Radiation Protection Authority; to amend the Hazardous Substances Ordinance, 1974 (Ordinance No. 14 of 1974); and to provide for related matters.
