Abstract
These Regulations, surviving the under Animal Health Act, provide rules for the provision of services by private and Government veterinary officers in urban and rural areas. In urban areas where private veterinarians are in practice, Government veterinary officers shall not attend cases of diseases amongst stock, except in the course of their duties in connection with scheduled diseases. The Regulations limit the cases where a Government veterinary officer or stock inspectors may intervene in case of occurrence of a disease affecting an animal. A distinctions is made between scheduled diseases and non-scheduled diseases.

The Regulations relating to Government Veterinary Officers and Stock Inspectors: Services to the Public were originally made in terms of section 27 of the Animal Diseases and Parasites Ordinance 34 of 1959, which was then repealed by the Animal Diseases and Parasites Amendment Act 9 of 1973, which was subsequently repealed by the Animal Health Act 1 of 2011. Pursuant to section 37(2) of the Animal Health Act 1 of 2011, the Regulations relating to Government Veterinary Officers and Stock Inspectors: Services to the Public are deemed to have been made under that Act.
