Abstract
These Regulations, as regards the territory of Gibraltar, are setting the food safety standards and issues related to the safe and controlled use of emulsifiers and stabilizers in foodstuff intended for human consumption.
This text is divided into 10 different sections as follows: Title and Commencement; Interpretation; Exemptions; Sale of food containing emulsifiers or stabilizers; Sale, advertisement and labelling of emulsifiers and stabilizers; No person shall; Condemnation of food; Penalties; Defences; Application of various section of the Act.
The provisions of these Regulations shall not apply to food having any emulsifier or stabiliser in it or on it or to any emulsifier or stabiliser which, in each case is intended at the time of sale or Importation, as the case may be, for exportation to any place outside Gibraltar, and is so exported.
This text also involves the following documents: Council Directive 78/663/EEC of 25 July 1978 laying down specific criteria of purity for emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners and gelling agents for use in foodstuffs; and Council Directive 82/504/EEC of 12 July 1982 amending Directive 78/663/EEC laying down specific criteria of purity for emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners and gelling agents for use in foodstuffs.
Schedules 1-3 are also part of this publication (containing technical lists and specific chemical classifications).
