Abstract
This Law provides for measures aiming at the protection of the environment in Serbia and the management of protected natural resources.
The Act consists of 121 articles divided into 7 Parts: Part II contains basic provisions of definitions. Article 1 defines the object of the law. Article 2 defines measures to protect and enhance the environment. Articles 3 to 11 set out general principles and defines general duties of public bodies and citizens of Serbia with respect to environmental protection and management. The Government shall report once a year to the National Assembly on the state of the environment (art. 12). Article 13 contains definitions. Part II concerns town and country planning and environmental planning of economic activities and related definition of environmental quality standards for air, water, soil. Other general rules concern the protection of forests, fauna and flora, and natural resources. Article 33 gives a definition of protective forest . Articles 37 to 39 concern protection of fauna and flora and the introduction of animal and plant species of foreign origin in Serbia. "Natural resources" are defined as national parks, natural parks, areas with exceptional features, natural reserves (general and special), natural monuments and natural rarities (art. 41). Articles 42 to 52 prescribes rules with respect to protection of and permitted development in such areas.
