Executive Order No. 7 on marine fishing monitoring.
Type of law
Regulation
Abstract
The Order establishes a regulatory framework for monitoring and controlling commercial fishing in Greenland’s fishing territory and by Greenland-registered vessels operating abroad. It applies mainly to larger fishing vessels (75 BRT/120 GT or more) and vessels involved in transferring fish products, and requires extensive reporting to the Greenland Fisheries License Control Authority (GFLK) and the Greenland Command. Vessels must submit advance arrival notifications, activity reports, weekly catch reports, position reports, and departure notifications, providing detailed information on vessel identity, crew, fishing areas, and quantities and types of catch. They must also keep standardized logbooks recording daily fishing operations and catches by species, maintain clear stowage plans for inspection, and submit documentation of landings within one month. The regulation further authorizes inspections by national and international authorities and establishes sanctions for violations, including fines, confiscation of catch or gear, and suspension of fishing licenses.
