Jammu and Kashmir Animal Diseases (Control) Act, 2006.

This Act provides for the protection of animals by preventing and controlling the outbreak or spread of any diseases.
In order to prevent the outbreak of diseases the Act empowers the Government to: prohibit or regulate the import, export or transport of any animal or the carcasses of animals that may be infective, the holding of animal markets, fairs or exhibitions in specific areas and the sale of infective animals or carcasses of animals; specify seasons during which animals may be imported; establish quarantine stations for the inspection and detention of animals; declare public or private infected places; etc.
The Act further provides for powers of inspectors and veterinary surgeons which shall include: to isolate infective animals; to examine animals; to grant licences for the removal of animals from infected areas or places; require animals to be brought to infected areas; require the disinfection of infected premises or vehicles; etc.
The Act further provides for offences and penalties.
