Abstract
This Act makes provision for the establishment, registration, operation and management of Cooperative Societies in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Act empowers the State Government to appoint a person to be the Registrar of Cooperative Societies for the registration, supervision, assistance, counsel and control of registered societies. The Act also sets out criteria and conditions for registration of cooperative societies.
The Act further provides for: members of cooperative societies, their rights and liabilities; management and operation of cooperative societies; privileges of cooperative societies; government aid to cooperative societies; property and funds of cooperative societies; audit; inquiry, inspection and surcharge; settlement of disputes; winding up and dissolution of cooperative societies; establishment of an Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to advance loans for land improvement and productive purposes; housing cooperative societies; appeal, revision and review; offences and penalties; etc.
