Abstract
These Regulations are here setting the food safety related rules and provisions as regards the use of miscellaneous food additives. This text also involves the provisions contained in the Council Directive 65/66/EEC of 26 January 1965 laying down specific criteria of purity for preservatives authorized for use in foodstuffs intended for human consumption; Council Directive 78/663/EEC of 25 July 1978 laying down specific criteria of purity for emulsifiers, stabilizers, thickeners and gelling agents for use in foodstuffs; and Council Directive 78/664/EEC of 25 July 1978 laying down specific criteria of purity for antioxidants which may be used in foodstuffs intended for human consumption.
Contents of this text are divided into 10 sections as follows: Title and Commencement (1); Interpretation (2); Exemptions (3); Sale etc of food containing miscellaneous additives (4); Sale, advertisement and labelling of miscellaneous additives (5); Food for babies and young children (6); Condemnation of food (7); Penalties (8); Defences (9); Application of various sections of the Act (10).
Schedules 1-3 are also part of this publication (List of permitted miscellaneous additives, including the list of specific purity criteria to be applied; list of miscellaneous additives permitted only in certain foods; labelling of permitted miscellaneous additives).
Entry into force notes
These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of August, 1987.
