Order No. 28 on by-catch fishing.

The Order applies to by-catch activities and sets regulations on the discard at sea immediately after capture. A logbook must be kept and updated for registration of these activities. The Department of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture may close fishing territory where there is a risk of large by-catch. By-catch must comply with measure limits established by local monitoring authorities (for Gadus morhua 40 cm, for Reinhardtius hippoglosoides 42 cm, for Hippoglossus hippoglossus 60 cm, for male Gadus poutassou the min. size is 9 cm. Gadus morhua by-catch larger than the minimum requirement criteria may be retained for private use) and, if damaged or non-complying with size requirements, by-catch must be brought to land. By-catch is calculated on the basis of a sample of min. 300 kg randomly captured. Resuming of fishing is not permitted within a minimum of 5 miles from a line between the logged start and end fishing position.
The Order applies to by-catch of: Gadus morhua, Pandalus borealis, Reinhardtius hippoglosoides, Hippoglossus hippoglossus, Anarchichas lupus, Anarchichas minor, Coryphaenoides rupestris, Macrourus berglax, Mallotus villosus, Chionoecetes opilio, Gadus poutassou and Boreogadus saida.
