Abstract
This Act provides rules relative to the importation, sale, use, transportation, handling, storage and disposal of pesticides and provides for control and enforcement. The purpose of this Act is to protect human health and safety and the environment.
Except as otherwise provided in this Act, the Environment Minister is responsible for its administration so far as it relates to the importation of pesticides and their impact on the environment, and the Minister of Health is responsible for the administration of this Act so far as it relates to pesticides and human health or safety. No person shall import, sell, use, keep or dispose of any prohibited pesticide, except as provided for in this Act.
The Act sets out rules relative to the importation, sale and use of restricted pesticides. Licences are required for the sale or application of a restricted pesticide and for the operation of a pest control business. Other provisions of this Act concern, among other things, reporting on accidents, the register of pesticides and regulation-making powers of the Ministers.
